Healthy Hair Tips with Tim Binnington, Founder of Manta Hair

In this blog, we're excited to share our interview with Tim Binnington, Founder of Manta Hair, to find out his top hair care tips for maintaining healthy hair.

Tell us about Manta and how it started?

The Manta was created from love.  Tim Binnington the co-founder of The Manta Healthy Hair & Scalp Brush has been a professional hairdresser for over 30 years.  He created this brush for his wife (Dani Binnington who is also a co-Founder of Manta) who after a life-threatening illness has lost her hair.  As it grew back she wanted to treat it gently as possible to minimise breakage.  Tim combining years of hands on experience with the latest materials and technology available developed a brush that would reinvent the way we treat our hair.

How does the Manta brush work?

The Manta was created to glide responsively through your hair. Crafted from a specialist soft touch material, the Manta Healthy Hair & Scalp Brush smoothly glides through hair without any rough edges that might catch or tear the hair shaft. Its ground-breaking patented FLEXGUARD technology ensures that each bristle has complete 360-degree motion, preventing the hair from reaching stress points that lead to breakage. With its unique design, Manta effortlessly tackles knots, minimises breakage, and enhances shine. Unlike conventional brushes that can cause irreversible damage, Manta's flexible design ensures that it detangles hair without ever reaching stress points, teasing and loosening knots instead of pulling and tearing. Plus, it offers the added benefit of gently exfoliating the scalp, creating a flake free, product build-up free, healthier scalp, perfect for hair growth.

How often should we brush our hair?

Determining how often you should brush your hair really depends on your hair type.  Curly & textured hair is normally detangled when wet. Wet hair is at its most delicate and elastic. Detangling with a regular brush or comb can lead to breakage. Using Manta to gently detangle will keep curls in healthy condition root to tip.  While fine hair can tangle easily and can often be more prone to show damage and breakage than thicker hair. Manta gently detangles fine hair, exfoliates and massages the scalp creating stronger supple roots and healthier shinier fine hair.  Remember to run manta through your hair throughout the day, instead of your hands. This will promote shine by smoothing the cuticle without transferring products like hand lotion from your hands, which can load your hair and make it look dull.

What are your top haircare tips to incorporate into a daily routine for maintaining healthy hair?

Here’s some top haircare tips you can incorporate into your routine today,

Use a hair mask twice a week. Increase the health of your hair by using a nourishing hair mask that will hydrate on a deeper level. After applying, brush through with your Manta Healthy Hair And Scalp Brush to distribute evenly through mid-lengths and ends. This will help with absorption and push the product throughout the hair.

Massage your scalp every night. Boost blood and circulation to the follicles by gently massaging and moving your scalp using your Manta Pulse, to help increase health and shine- it’s also is incredibly relaxing, which will aid sleep.

Rinse extra thoroughly. Often dullness in hair is simply conditioner that needs an extra rinse. Move your hair around as you rinse to make sure the roots are product free.

Always use a silk scrunchie as its super soft against your hair, prevents tangles, reduces frizz and doesn’t break your hair.

How often do you recommend washing hair to keep it healthy, and does this frequency vary by hair type?

Generally, experts advise washing hair every two to three days, although this may vary based on individual factors such as hair type and oil levels. Adjustments in frequency may be necessary for those experiencing challenges like dryness or product build-up.

How do lifestyle factors like stress and sleep affect hair health, and what can be done to mitigate these effects?

Stress and sleep patterns have a significant influence on hair health, growth and fall-out supporting the intricate connection between our mind and body. Practices such as meditation and breathwork not only promote relaxation but also contribute to overall well-being, and benefiting hair health. Additionally, regular scalp massages can boost blood flow, fostering a healthy environment for optimal hair growth and vitality. By adopting mindful practices, you can mitigate the adverse effects of stress and poor sleep, paving the way for healthier hair.
